I am 16 and recently, I’ve been very stressed out. My school schedule is absurd. I sleep 4-6 hours a day as I have to wake up at 6 AM.

Recently, I’ve experienced the following:

1) Sleep Paralysis
This did not really scare me because I had read about it a week prior to experiencing it (weird). I did not see any spectral figures. However, I was unable to move any of my limbs – but thats what makes it sleep paralysis, right? It lasted about only one minute. It seems that its easier to break out of sleep paralysis if you focus on moving a finger.

2) Bed Shaking
Although I’m an Atheist, I do have superstitious beliefs. However, before even considering paranormal theories as to why my bed shakes, I’d like to know all of the secular, plausible, theories.

3) Unknown disorder?? I think its called sleep anxiety? not sure
This happens most often when I’m right about to sleep. It is mostly when I ask myself philosophical questions that end up keeping me awake – pondering about what will happen after I die. When I experience this sleep anxiety or whatever its called, I will usually let out a loud shout which would wake up most of my family. Its almost as if I lose consciousness. I have different memories while in this state of confusion. Its as if thoughts had been implanted into me. I am deprived of common sense. I would shake off my blanket and in my mind, I would believe that I had just destroyed some valuable property. I would feel intense amounts of stress.

Could anyone tell me more about these sleep disorders? It’d be nice to know if other people experience the same things as well. Sleep paralysis, I am well aware that other people experience it, but for the others, I am not so sure.

I’ve also tried a few over the counter sleep aids which only make me extremely groggy the next morning.

I don’t know if necessarily I have insomnia or if another reason better fits. If I’m still having a problem at the end of this month I’m going to the doctor. Does anyone have any suggestions on either information or ideas as to what my problem is?

After reading through certain types of sleep disorders I was bit curious about the sleep paralysis.

Throughout my life I’ve experienced some sort of unusual events during my sleep.

The most common abnormal sleep event is when I’m awake during sleep.
I can open my eyes a little bit just to see my surroundings, but my body can’t move.
I’ve did some research before posting this question, but nothing mentions about this occurrence during the sleep paralysis. This might sound silly, but whenever this happens I quickly try to get out of this state by jerking my neck side to side or just completely turn my neck to one side. And my goodness, sometimes I just don’t have enough stamina to keep doing this :( and it scares me sometimes.

I always wanted to record myself sleeping, but it’s rare nowadays for me at least.
I’ve never had hallucination but I did hear a loud noise once during this, which I quickly did my “escape method” by jerking my neck. Which I woke up everyone asking if they heard a noise.

For those who uses this “Escape Method” are we actually movie our neck, or is it just a feeling of the neck movement. I’m so curious about this.

I also jerk alot in my sleep and sometimes wake up because i “forget” to breathe. my bf says i talk a few times a night. I don’t drink much caffeine, And I am limited on my exercise by my Asthma.. And I have Dust and cat allergies… which there is alot of both here.. Any Ideas? Please help me out!
